Curious to know the D.O.M. and possible value of this gun... serial # 62625 single barrel 16 ga has a patent date stamped on the side feb 27, 1900

    Can't give you the DOM just now, not near the books. Value is likely to be modest at best. H&R produced utilitarian guns that have not drawn much collector intrest (but don't tell that to those of us who collect them). There are a very few of their items that get 4 digits, but most are very modest. Likely $150 at best.

    thanks HE-DOG, not really expecting the gun to be worth much... lately there have been quite a few older guns popping up in the family that are in fair shape at best... mainly just a curiousity of the age and history of the gun than a value thing... whenever you get a chance to get the books out, that's soon enough .. thanks again

    your shotgun could be either the model 1900 (1901 -1915) or the model 1908 (1909-1931). in 1931 name changed to model 8 (1932-1942) no patent dates marking on this late version. most likely your shotgun with just one patent date is a model 1908 manufactured in the 1920's.

    the difference between the model 1900 and 1908 is the method of take down. the model 1900 has a removable hinge pin and the model 1908 takes down the same way as modern single barrel shotguns.

    RemNut, Bgoforth is THE go to guy on H&R. Prior to WWII there just are no records to track a serial number to year of manufacture.

    thanks guys... sounds to me like i'm dealing with a 1908 model... forend snaps off and breaks open like the newer models now just a little bit of cleaning perhaps and the gun will be retired for veiwing pleasure, of course a cleaning will require at least one shell to dust the barrel before oiling[:D]
