Can I get an approx value for an above average SKS
I found an SKS, Chinese (stamped only SKS, not Norinco), looks to be brand new and one of the prettiest I've ever seen. It's milled, not stamped btw. The guy's asking $300 for it and that sounds a bit high, the Yugo's in similar shape go for half that. I know the Yugo's are stamped and perhaps not the same quality, but I dont know anything about hard values. I'm not familiar enough with SKS's to make a judgement call on this one. One thing I ask is no "if you're happy, its worth it" posts. I'm looking for a value so if I need/want to resell it I wont be hosed.
thanks,
Shane

That is too high of a price. That is a nice one though but i picked one up in about the same shape for $200. Personally i wouldn't even consider it unless it was about $100 less. 0 -
that is the short version (paratrooper) which commands a much higher price than the average chinese sks..that one is forged not milled..i have two milled chinese and you can tell by the milling marks on them and also the color of the bolt handle.. 0 -
That doesn't seem reasonable if it's just a run of the mill Chinese SKS. Since the Yugo's are being imported and sold in such great quanity, i.e. locally they are available for $150 in virtually new condition. This has affected the market value of most SKS's.
On the other hand there's some rare variations out there. I had a early import, Chinese police marked SKS that I sold a number of years ago.
Go to this link it's a wealth of information on the various SKS's. It will give you some idea on the different countries who made the SKS and variations they made. With this information you'll have a ballpark idea of what the various SKS's are worth.

I have an early Chinese SKS with the blade bayonet. All matching numbers except for the magazine. It either dates to 1957 or 1958, too early in the morning to remember right now. I paid $224 about 2 years ago, but was wondering if this was "milled" or "forged?" It also appears to have a shorter barrel, but what would the rifle overall length be if it was a paratrooper?
Thanks0 -
You mentioned in your first post that you didn't want to be hosed. I think the price is at the very high end of the value of a paratrooper. He might find someone to buy at that price, but you may never get that much for it unless you have lots of time to list it on auction and find the right buyer.

I dont think I'm going to be getting that particular one...I sent him an email with an offer, heres the response:
quote:Go ahead and buy the cheaper ones. You get what you pay for. Right now mine is the best buy I can see on the internet. Maybe you can find one cheaper locally from someone who doesn't know what he has and get a better deal.
Granted, I didnt know that the paratrooper was worth more so it is worth a little more. In my research this morning I did find that the paratrooper was never issued to the military, only commercial sales and it also has accuracy issues at longer ranges. Still looking...
thanks for the input guys,

That is a very nice carbine. Still, my top offer would be $200, if I really wanted it...and I don't, because I have one just like it that I bought for $175. 0 -
The Yugo' are milled and machined and normally twice as good as any Chinese model.

Update...just got one from a guy on another gun sight...unissued Yugo. They're still packed in cosmoline but for $15 bucks they'll clean it off. Should have the order completed by tomorrow. All under 200.
thanks for the advice folks!
