It's easy to buy a gun virtually anywhere in NYC. Just not easy to do it legally. Isn't gun control wonderful?

    unless the law changed again
it would have been a six month waiting period
and you would have to have a permit just to own a hand gun

I am a New York City Gun owner and it gets a Bit confusing but i will do my best to shed some light on things. You MUST have a Rife/shotgun permit to Purchase, transfer and have in your Posession at any time a Long gun If you are a city resident. All Long guns MUST also be registered with the NYPD firearms control board, if you are in posession of a long gun it must have a trigger lock and you must have on your person a Rifle/shotgun permit and the registration slip for that firearm, to purchase ammunition you must have the permit and a registration slip for the firearm in that perticular caliber or its no sale. You are limited to the type of long gun you can own in the city too, NOTHING MILITARY no pistolgrips, flashhiders bayo lugs...ect
and you are limited to a FIVE round capicity. Really only Hunting type Guns can be owned in the city (no fun guns or decent protection type long guns are alowed in the city). I have been a long gun permit holder for a while and never had any problems but then again my tast in firearms happen to be NYC compiant (at the moment anyway), The only change i know of is the Rifle/shotgun permit fee Increase
which went from $40.00 to $140.00 last month[:(!].Thats it in the nut shell. I AM SURE I JUST CONVINCED MOST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS TO MOVE HERE[:0][:p]

Im an FFL in NYS upstate and we were told that your city just passed some laws that will not let you buy long guns in the city and that any firearm involved in a crime can be traced back to the FFL an he may be held responsible. There was a large article on this too in our local paper but it was so damn confusing no one could understand it. Ive had some customers call and ask us if we wil lsell them a gun because they live in the city and that the city FFL's are telling them to go away. Id just like to get a clarification on this suppossed law ..

I dont think what you heard was accurate, My hunting Club is in Up state in Orange county and I just went to a meeting yesterday and met up with a few guys from the city who just bought guns No problem.
as long as the buyer has the proper permit a City resident can Buy
a long gun anywhere in the state and also PA as far as i know.
There really are only a Few Gun dealers left in the city (legal ones anyway)I have always bought my guns on Long Island or Upstate.
