NYS FFL Question

Contigious state question. Can I walk in a NYS dealers gun shop and buy a gun if I am from Florida ?

    There is no "contiguous state" provision in any federal firearms law.

    Federal law says that you can buy any firearm only from an FFL within your state, or from a nonlicensee within your state (state & local law permitting). However, you may buy a long gun (rifle or shotgun) from an FFL in any state, if you appear before him at his premises & such sale is legal in both states.

    Not all FFLs will want to be put in the position of figuring out the law in your state, so some will undoubtedly refuse to sell to non-residents.

    Im looking for the state law for NY. There must be some FFL dealers here from NY that know the rule ?

    Things may have changed, but 20 years ago I couldn't even sell a rifle to a friend in Pa with out a signed document from his local Chief of Police stating it was OK...and it had to be on the 4473 ..... I seriously doubt you could buy a handgun in NY if you were not a resident, unless you had a valid FFL on file.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    The only way a non resident can buy a handgun in NY is to hav ethe gun shipped to a FFL in his/her state and go through the paperwprk there. Im curious about the long gun law for a person that is not from a contiguous state.
