What do you think about buying the Olympic .223 Plinker and then buying the free floating heavy stainless barrel upper for it. Do you think that would be a good investment?

    I feel pretty dumb but can anyone tell me what an AR-15 lighting link is I saw it on ebay and figured the best place to find out was here

    Bushmaster is also well made.

    I just finished reading The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide by Walt Kuleck with Scott Duff ($22.95) and though it seems sometimes to be an advertisement for Fulton Armory, it has a lot of good stuff in it. It's a bit outdated in that it was written pre-ban sunset, so it's geared more towards post-ban, pre-sunset setup.
    The book got me comfortable to where I was able to know what I wanted in my first AR-15, and I referenced a number of times before I finally settled on buying one. If you know absolutely nothing about the AR-15 or its many clones, it's a good book to start.

    I have many types, my Colts are my favorites. They are well made, always go bang. My favorite to shoot in rifle matches is my old SP1 with plain old iron sights.

    That said I have a Bushmaster, an Armalite, a PWA, an Oly, and a bunch of "home assembled" ones... They actually all function well, the only one that was a problem was the Armalite and it required 2 trips to the factory before they got the chamber issue corrected.

    Colt if you want to spend some money. Armalite and Bushmaster if you want a mill spec shooter. I like Bushmanster alot for the AR-15 you are wanting. My 2 cents. [8D]

    Again, I have to say that only Colt built the AR-15, and it has been out of production for 25 years. If you want an AR-15 clone, then I would wait until the various makers get geared up for Post-Ban prouction and probably buy an ArmaLite or a Bushmaster. While I am a Colt fan, the current production Colt rifles have the large pins and sear block, and that ruins them for me.

    Hey, I'm doing the same thing except I intend to build my lower.

    AR15.com has a ton of good info. On the Build Your Own section they have detailed instructions on assembling your own AR clone.

    I bought a DPMS forged lower yesterday at the Gun show. I plan to put a RRA lower parts kit with 2 stage trigger, a standard A2 stock and grip and will probably buy an A4 upper complete from RRA. They offer several configarutions using quality components at good prices and they seem to have a good reputation over on that board.

    I ultimately want to build a target hbar and also an upper in .50 Beowulf or another large caliber that I can hunt deer and hogs with at close ranges.

    And my upper will have the evil features on it. Just because I can have them.
