Date a S&W 14-4

Can someone tell me the manufaturing date on a S&W 14-4 K38.

  According to Standard Catalog of S & W, the change to 14-4 occurred in 1977. The change to 14-5 occurred in 1991. The revolver in question would have been manufactured between those dates.

  Actually the run was 1977 to 1982. The 14-4 was discontinued in 1982 and reintroduced as the 14-5 in 1991. If you post part of a serial number, we'll see if we can narrow it down a little more.
