S&W model 39 and 39-2 differences?

I'm trying to find out what specifically is different between a Smith and Wesson 39 and a 39-2. Both are the 9mm alloy frame. The Blue Book only says there were "improvements" in the later made 39-2. The specific information I need to know is if the barrels will interchange -- a friend needs a barrel for a 39-2.

  39 1957 start of model numbering system
  39-1 1961 Made in 38 AMU cartridge for military 87 made.
  39-2 1971 Extractor change

  Any idea if the extractor change affected the barrel? Will a 39 barrel work in a 39-2?

  Oops -- forgot to mention we're actively looking for a barrel. Gun Parts Corp is out of 'em right now. Anybody have any other sources?

  I don't know about the barrel change but e-parts will tell you even they are out.
