1911 Internal Parts Question

I'm building up a 1911 on a "reclaimed" Colt 1918 frame. Ordered Gun Parts Corp frame parts kit and have all kinds of problems. Kit seems to be a mix of 19ll and A1 parts, flat hammer, flat mainspring housing, long trigger, etc. Frame is entirely original and unaltered which I fired is as a gun maybe a thousand times. One issue seems the 'disconnector' is too short. I see a 'long' disconnector listed in catalogs and wonder about the whys and wherefores of two lengths in this day of parts interchangeability. I have built up a few 1911s so I'm not entirely new to this. Also I haven't really set my mind to troubleshooting my problems yet. One apparent was the pin hole for the mainspring housing that doesn't align with the hole in the corner of the frame. I just egged the frame hole a little to deal with that.
