1st time post ! norinco uzi won't fire

Before the ban I bought a norinco uzi carbine. I took the thumbhole stock off to shape it up a little & to paint it.While that was off I took the spring for the grip safety out, because it was akward to use, then the gun wouldn't shoot. I couldn't find the spring afterwards and put the gun in the back of the safe and forgot about until the recent ban expiration. Is the missing spring my problem or is it something else? Also can I put a shorter barrel or different stock on now? I live in Idaho w/ no personal restrictions.

  You will need to replace the spring for safety reasons. As for the stock, it must remain a thumbhole design to be legal unless you add enough US made parts to the weapon to make it qualify as a domestic production gun. As for the shorter barrel, no you must use a 16" or longer barrel to maintain legality. Anything shorter than 16" and it will be classified as a short barreled rifle. Basically without a great amount of additional parts and effort, your Norinco UZI must remain in the configuration that it was originally made in to remain legal.

  I've heard of UZI owners having the grip safety pinned by a gun smith but not removing the spring. I was thinking of using a good thick strong rubber band around my grip safety. Haven't tried it yet.
