Colt bolt actions

I'm seeking advice and feedback regarding Colt bolt-action "lightweight" rifles regarding quality, accuracy and reliability. Are they comparable to Remington, Tikka etc?

    If memory serves me well.... They were called Colt Sauer rifles. I have a friend that has one and likes it. It shoots as well as can be expected for a lightweight rifle. It goes BANG and a bullet hits in the general area it is supposed to.

    I had a Colt light rifle in .270 and HATED it. The bolt could only be worked if the safety was off or by pressing a release lever down and was a pain in the behind. The accuracy was around 1.5-1.75 inches at 100. I did not like the small bolt handle or the skinny bolt. I did not think it was made very well. Just my opinion. A friend has one in 30-06 (I think) and it serves him but he only takes it out of the closet to hunt with and does not practice.

    The Colt Sauer is a horse of a different color.I don't know who made the Colt Light Weights ,as far as I know it wasn't Sauer.[:)]

    I add this in response to your question about a comparison to Remington or Tikka or... No they are NOT as good as these other brands. They might be O.K. after the warrantee work is done but they are not going to be both cheap and good.

    The quick re-cap is that Colt purchased Ultra Light Arms from Melvin Forbes, who had designed the original rifle from scratch. Colt managed to goof up most of the new design with help from Saco Defense Systems, who actually made the rifle. They did get some shipped and then had to sell off all of the rest of the inventory when they defaulted on Melvin's payments. The ones sold off were handled by CDNN, mostly. Melvin has the New Ultra Light Arms up and running with his original design and is even trying to help those that purchased rifles from Colt or CDNN even though he had nothing to do with the problems.

    On the commercial side, a new acquisition of Ultra Light Arms, Inc. puts Colt back in the sporting rifle business.

    Colt's Mfg. Co. had barely begun production of the Light Rifle that it acquired from Ultra Light Arms when a problem with the bolt assembly surfaced, resulting in the beleaguered gunmaker issuing a recall. A Colt spokesman said the problem was that the firing pin on some rifles may fail to cock, leaving itself at rest on the primer of a chambered round. The result could be an accidental discharge if the bolt was hit or the gun dropped.

    Industry insiders said Colt had shipped fewer than 500 units of the Light Rifle. Our mole also reported that there are about 1,500 Light Rifles ready to ship from the manufacturer, Saco Defense Systems. However, the company refuses to release the guns until Colt pays its bills, according to an industry newsletter.

    Additional trouble looms from Ultra Light Arms owner Melvin Forbes, who was forced to take back what was left of his company after Colt reportedly failed to pay him.

    I have a new in the box Colt Light Rifle in 7mm Rem Mag that I traded on a couple of years ago. I have never fired the gun. It came with the owners manual, and an additional card that informs the customer - "In August 2000, Colt's Manufacturing Company in conjunction with Colt Rifle's Inc. issued a recall of Model # CLR3064SRBL (30-06 caliber only) which involved a group of rifles shipped before this time." It goes on to say that [this rifle] in the box was made after the recall & is unaffected...

    Also there is no indication of Sauer being involved in the production of these guns. I know that this response does not answer the original posters' question -
