What about the "new" AK-47s?
I was thinking about getting an AK-47, wanting a "fun gun" to take out and target shoot. The ammunition is cheap as dirt so why not? Anyway, I've seen these new ones crop up all under $400 bucks. My question is are these new Romanians as good (or better?) than the older guns? I was told that the new ones were actually tighter and fired better but cant hold up to the torture of the old ones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

HMM, couple hundred rounds each trip to the range, cleaning after every trip, sitting in my gun vault...sounds rough doesnt it.
What I want to know most of all is if these are cheap imitations that're going to fall apart on me.

I bought a 5.45 Romanian just to have something cheap in the Jeep. I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it. She fell in love with it, and 2000 rounds in 6 months later, "it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!" Never a failure to function. I honestly couldn't be happier with it.

I think you would greatly enjoy the new Wasr10's that are on the market with all the evil features. I bought a used rusty post ban Wasr10 highcap dirt cheap. I buffed the rust off the top cover, repainted it, filed on the magwell, added a folder and some new wood (not shown in pic) and it's actually alot of fun. Mags are cheap, ammo is cheap, & drums are available.
Come on join us on the dark side buy an AK.

The AK design is such that unless it was made here in the US of A on a Monday it will never break. I have 2 SAR3 in 5.56 and they work first time every time. My 2 cents [8D]

WASR 10's and SAR-1's are your best bang for the buck... expect to pay about $300 for wasr, and anywhere from 350-500 for a SAR-1.

well if your gonna get one from atlantic firearms , take a look at those vector rifles they have for sale , those underfolders rock , and have held up under torture ,and have a 5 year factory warrenty

i looked , sorry they did not list the vector names in their decripsion on their vecter rifles , they have a fixed buttstock , which has a 439.00 price and a reserve sign by it , and a similar blond stock , close the rifle in the link you posted , and i guess they auction ended because i did not see the one they had listed ,you can go to the gunbroker main page and go to view a users feedback and look up feedback number 103 on my name , to get a look at one which, is the same picture drobs posted ,or you can click on my name ,to send me an e-mail and i will send you a couple first hand pictures , i do not care to post, i have a slow modem ,well i dont know if it has anything to do with it but it takes a lot of time for my aging pc to post

Go to Atlantic Firearms from a link on GB.
When their page opens, click on "rifles" on the left side in blue
print.
When that page comes up, click on the "AK47" red link in the middle of the page.
When the AK page comes up, scroll down until you see AK V model.
It says they have a few left at $429.00 I believe.
They are Russian made and excellent from what I understand.
A little further down you will see "These are a great AK rifles"
and under that statement is the Bulgarian SLR 101S (they ship the
model 101SB, which takes double stack hi-caps, has a milled receiver
and is one top notch heavy-duty AK with a side rail and hi-Cap mag included. Sure, its a little more scratch, but an excellent value.
So what if you have to save up a little while longer. In AKs as
with most things, you get what you pay for.0
