Ruger Single Six 22
Was wanting to know if there is any special fitting to use a 22 mag. cylinder? The Single Six that I just acquired is an older new model with just the .22 cylinder and was thinking about trying to find a mag. cylinder for it. Also what do used 22 mag cylinders go for. Thanks.

The revolver needs to be sent to the factory and have the new cylinder fitted to it. The ones I used to see in the store had a portion of the serial number engraved on the cylinders. Hope this helps.

Just confirming what MT357 said...
Took a look at mine and it has the last three digits of the serial number hand etched in the front face of the cylinder. I never noticed this until now.0 -
it all depends you can get lucky and find one that fits , which I have done so, for a single six and also a vaquero in 45lc, found a a 45acp that fit right in ,
if you buy a use cyl., just make sure you check that it lines up right with the barrel, you can do this by slipping a rod that is just a little smaller than the bore down the barrel and into the chambers with the gun cocked (empty of course ) , if the rod slides right into the chamber without hitting as it goes in you're ok , if you get any type of misalignment then the gun and cyl neds to see a gunsmith or be sent in to the factory
used cyl go any where from $25 to as high as $40 with no guarantee that they will fit0 -

Hello you did not state if this pistol started life as a convertable model that lost one CYL.or just a straight single six in 22 LR . I believe you will find that the convertable model had a different bore size then the pistols for 22 lr only. This could cause higher than normal pressures.if you shoot 22mag thru 22 lr bore. 0 -
How does one find this out. I picked this up used. It does have the Ser.# etched on the cylinder. As stated above it is an older "New Model" Thanks for all the Info. 0 -
Write Ruger, they'll tell you, they are really good about that sort of thing. And as Perry said, the convertible model DOES have a slightly larger bore. 0 -

I have one with both 22lr and 22mag cyl. The 22LR cyl is a little longer than a cyl from an older model 22lr only.
I cannot confirm w/slug, but I have heard that the bore is a compromise for use with 22lr and 22mag.

Chief, call Ruger 603-863-6165 and ask for records. Give records the s/n and they can tell. They can tell you most info on the gun, ship date, barrel lenght, configuration, etc.
As gskyhawk as stated, the cylinder does not have to be fitted by the factory, but take care, and be sure to get a new model cylinder, unfluted and rollmarked 22mag. I believe the OM cylinders are shorter in length. More $$ also.
The last time I checked, factory cylinder (22mag) and fitting was $55 for the cylinder and $20 labor. Plus shipping both ways.0 -
