22-250
I just bought this cal. in a Browning bolt action for my 12yr. son. My question is (after-thought) is this cal. big enough to kill whitetail at less than 150yds.?
Thanks,
Mike

Hello.I purchased a bolt action 22-250 with a bull barrell at an auction this weekend.I didn't pay much for it.I don't anything about it.Hopefully someone can help me. On the barrell it says B.E.COTTRELL.The wood on the gun gun is kinda of red looking with a little yellow almost laminate. Can someone please tell me where this is made and what is worth.I really appreciate your help.Thanks. 0 -
I have one of these and you should shoot nothing larger than 55.I forget twist, but tried to shoot the larger ones and accuracy was terrible. Anything under 55 works great for mine.Maybe this will help. 0 -
Hi dcso3009,
If you put a marked cleaning rod just down into the bore and then push it until the rod makes one complete revolution while measuring it with a tape or yardstick, that will give you the twist rate of that barrel.
If it takes 12 inches to get you one complete revolution you have a 1 in 12 twist. Good Luck [:)][:D][8D]

Hello Dcso3009
All three of my reloading manuals used rifles with a 1:14 inch twist. Speer lyman and hornady. The speer and lyman are early sixties when they callled the 22/250 or the varminter. One company used a savage model 110 the other a mauser 98 and the third did not mention what rifle just the twist.and barrel lenght. The hornady manual was printed in 1973. Hope this helps.
