best filler rifle

I have a marlin 30/30 and a ruger #1 in .300 winmag. What would be the best middle of the road rifle cal. for me?

Earl It sounds like you have a few 30 calibers. If i was looking for something between them I would pick either a 308 Win or a 30-06.

Why:
1. You still have a 30 caliber gun and only have to stock 30 caliber bullets for reloading.[:)]

2. A 30-30 is an excellent backup if you need a second gun. A 308 or 30-06 are good all around guns. Small stuff at long range to big Elk. 300 Win is a excellent long Range and heavy duty gun. A little to big for chipmunks though. Unless you don't want to pick them up.

3. Next add a 357 mag Handgun for plinking to hunting backup gun.

If you desire to change calibers it seems the .243 Winchester would kinda fill a void there. Its totally acceptable for deer, great for varmits. Has a lot less recoil than your present guns.

What do you want to do with it? Target, hunting, both? What kind of country is it to be used in? What kind of game? Anything from
22-250 to 7mmMag could qualify. More data please.
