I have heard you don't shoot lead ammo in a glock. What is a good cheap ammo to shoot for plinking.

Treadlok, uncovered lead bullets cause significant lead buildups in the Glock barrel because of the kind of rifling used. Any kind of 9MM ammo that has plated or jacketed bullets works great. Federal does make a strict lead round that works fine because the lead itself is much harder than usual.

If you insist in shooting lead bullets exclusively in Glocks, contrary to "factory" instructions, you'll do well to purchase an aftermarket stainless steel barrel like KKM, Bar-Sto, or others. This will improve your accuracy somewhat, and will not lead up, unless you make the loads too hot. 0 -
My glock 21 would not shoot lead unless you call a 23" pattern at 15 yards a group. I put a SS cut rifiling barrel with comp. in it and have put about 15,000 rounds through it. Now it shoots lead. The barrel cost me 175 bucks so they aint cheap. 0 -
The problem is that Glock used an unusual type of rifling that arguably gives a slight edge in accuracy at long ranges. This rifling pattern originated back in the muzzle loading days but fell by the wayside due to it's tendency to build up fouling and lead deposits. Glock also chose to make their barrels with a non-fully supported chamber to aid in feeding, which when combined with this leading prone rifling and a polymer frame can create a dangerous situation if non-jacketed bullets are used.
It's a bit ridiculous to use this type rifling in what's essentially a short range defensive handgun and cause restrictions to be placed on what type of ammunition can be used. IMHO, the supposed gain in accuracy isn't worth the trade-off.
The Glock design will feed just about any ammunition of the correct caliber that you stuff in it, but you're forced to either limit your ammo to jacketed bullets or drop in an aftermarket barrel with conventional rifling. My choice would be to switch barrels and shoot whatever ammo I wished.0 -
I probably put 500 to 1000rds of Lead Round Nose 3D "factory" reloads through my older gen 1 Glock 21 back before I knew this was supposedly bad to do. Never had any problems, but then again I cleaned my gun every so often.
Glocks will shoot just about anything. My 21 has 9000+ rounds through it with not one single jam ever.
If you are buying a 9mm, buy whatever is the cheapest. UMC, Winchester white box, Wolf, and Sellor & Bellot will all work. Wolf is really dirty though!

I have a Glock 17 & I have dumped everything (included the dreaded Wolf ammo) through it. My favorite have been the 100 pack Winchester from Wal-Mart. The key to buy ANY type of ammo is to buy in bulk, 500-1000rds at a time & to also know where to buy from. Cheaperthandirt & sportmans Guide have the best deal that I have been able to find but you are going to buy in bulk. I've been told not to use Wolf cause the steel case will wear out your extractor faster, what 14000rds instead of 15000rds? Good luck 0
