remington 1100 date

Hi everyone, I received a remington 1100 from my fathers estate and would like to know when it was made. serial # 2971xx V Thank you for any help on this.

  Should be some "code" letters on barrel just forward of receiver.
  
  Go to this site, and enter them in the search function.

  The only problem with this system is that the Remington shotgun barrels are easy to remove and change. You have no idea if the barrel is original to the shotgun, it's mounted on?

  There is a place on their website to ask questions like that. Expect a less than informative answer. I had them tell me that a 21" Skeet bbl for my 1100 20ga STD was never made by them. But I have one, and it was made by the factory!
