Mark: Just one slight disagreement on the statement about magazines; actually the "metric" mags can be used in the "inch" receiver, although they fit rather loosely and it probably is not the best idea, but "inch" mags cannot be used in the "metric" receiver without some modification to the receiver. The up side is that "metric" mags are cheap compared to "inch" mags. If a person is planning on building an FAL I would strongly recommend the "metric" model,ie; G1 or STG 58, since there is a huge amount of parts availabe for them.

There are a number of small differences between the metric and inch receivers. But, there is only one major difference and that is how the butt stock mates up to the lower receiver. Still I have put my inch lower on freinds metrich upper and it has worked just fine. Any which way, if your parts kit is an inch pattern, get an inch pattern receiver. The STG58 kits and other metric kits seem to be much more readily available and the Imbel receivers are not aftermarket re-creates as they are production items from a major manufacturer of Fal rifles for South American governments, mostly Brazil. This is how I would do it if I was to build one today.
