Best rounds for Glock 21 45ACP?

I have purchased a new Glock 21 with two 13 round mags and need some feedback about what the best/better defensive round to fire in them. I have a LE friend that told me he heard of some Glocks having trouble with the Hydro Shocks. Normally I use 230 grain brass jacketed hollow points but I am considering a lighter round. Thanks in advance.

    If you hand load you can choose from many, they all work well. I really like to 200 gr Speer hollow cavity over a book listed charge of blue dot. It works all the time, every time. If you don't load your own buy what you feel will do the job. Then shoot several boxes to make sure it goes BANG every time all the time. It doesn't matter what the load is if you can't hit with it or it goes CLICK.....BANG is good, CLICK is bad. Enjoy your Glock, they are good guns. [:)]

    Bpost; thanks. I do not load my own. I wish I had the time to do so but with so many other things to do, mainly trying to spend every day light hour working on what Hurricane Charlie left of our boat, I have little time for anything else. I posted this because knowledge is a wonderful and fulfilling thing and those like you give me knowledge with every reply you make. Thanks again.

    Buddy of mine shoots 230gn FMJ round nose through his G21 with no issues. Cycles the gun flawlessly.

    For his defensive round he loads it up with 230gn Golden Sabers from Remington. We have shot a few boxes to test it through his G21 and they work great.

    ActionTek..... Your friend is right. When my dept adopted Glock 21 pistols we also approved Hydro Shocks 230 gr hollow point.

    We quickly found that because of the flat edges on the bullet it was having frequent feeding problems. We then changed to Winchester .45 ammo with a more rounded bullet. That solved the problem.

    Any factory 230 gr FMJ is a good stopper. If you need a lighter bullet, then the 200 gr fmj or hollow point should work well. Whatever round you decide on, I would strongly suggest at least 50 rds of function firing before you use it for protection.

    Man, that's all great advice. I have always used the Remington 230 brass jacketed HPs in my Sig and had good results. Have you had problems with Glocks for the first 50 rounds? This is my first Glock and I bought it new; got a great deal, I think, and would appreciate any suggestions on its dos and don'ts. It will be carried on the boat; the extreme enviroment it will be used in is the reason I selected the Glock. Many thanks people.

    I purchased my Glock 21 ten years ago and it has never failed to feed anything I tested in it with the execption of 230 Gr. Hydro Shocks. As another poster mentioned, try a more rounded style HP. Mine likes Winchester Silver Tips.

    Whatever you choose, make sure you run a box or two through the G21 just to make sure.

    Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....

    I find the Corbon 230grn HPs work good in my G21. You may also want to check out Corbon Power Ball HP's. They have a profile of FMJ ball ammo and should feed in any 45.

    I find my G21 will feed anything I put into it.

    Has anyone tried lighter loads? 200 or lighter grain and if so what were your results? I am interested in range as well as stopping power. Thanks so much for your replies.
