What is cast-off? Question about a shotgun.

I'm trying to do my research, interested in buying an EAA IZH27 O/U. So I went googling to find some opinions of it. On a shotgun forum I found this statement:

What does this mean? I'm a lefty so this may adversely affect me, one guy thats lefthanded said it pointed way to the right. I have not been able to find one locally to check out, hoping to find one at the gun show this weekend. But before then, can someone explain cast-off to me?

    That means the butt of the stock is not directly in line with the barrel and receiver. On a right handed shotgun, the butt would be to the left of the centerline. It helps with aim and recoil. If it was backwards, it would be hard to hit anything and painful.

    Typically, if you put a straight edge down the center of the barrel(s)
    and continue over the butt stock, the butt stock would be close to the
    center of the straight edge. Cast off is when the butt stock is left
    (in firing position) of the center line.

    "cast on" is the term used when the butt stock is right (in firing position) of the center line.

    Hello sweaver...

    "cast-off" is when a buttstock is intentionally curved in one direction or the other (depending upon the shooter being right-handed or left-handed), and is usually requested when the owner has an off-side dominant eye. The curvature of the buttstock allows the shooter to more quickly line up on target with his shooting eye.

    Thanks for the insight. I hope this isnt typical of the gun. I went to their site and the stock looks straight as an arrow on their pics but several people were talking about cast off in a thread I was reading. Maybe it is only a special order thing.

    Well...I went ahead and emailed EAA. What a rip! The very first sentence is their response, below it is the email I sent them, I get one lousy "tough-chit" line:

    The revers is called "cast on." That is what a left eye dominant shooter needs.
