how much do i pay for these guns?

My wife works for a doctor who is selling his gun collection. He has two Walther P38's and two Lugers (not broomhandles) that I would like to buy. How much should I offer for these? One of the lugers is in real good shape, the other is ok. Both the Walthers are in good shape. He bought these about 40 years ago from a pawn shop for 30 bucks apiece. He also has a M1903 A3 Springfield rifle (made by Smith Corona) that I would also like to have. It is in good condition also. How much should I offer for these?

    Your question is sort of like my asking, "I want to buy a 3 bedroom rancher; how much should I pay for it?" You'd probably have 50 questions to ask before making an estimate, & it's the same with the guns you are talking about. Without seeing 10-20 high quality photos of each gun, there's no way to tell how much they are worth.

    Personally, I HATE it when someone asks me how much I am willing to pay for a gun. I've never given a price without getting burned; invariably the "seller" is either just trying to get an appraisal, or has an outrageous figure in mind. See if you can get the doctor to tell you how much HE thinks they are worth.

    Having said that, I don't think that you will get burned if you give him $2,000 for all 5 guns; they are probably worth more, but no one can estimate how much more without more information.

    Thanks for the reply, Neal. I know it is a very vague question. I know i can go to the CMP and get a 1903 at a good price, but this one is in VERY good condition, and if I'm not mistaken, all original. I was going to buy an M1 garand from the CMP, but doc had one and I gave him 500.00 for it. I fell kinda bad now, for it is a WRA manufactured in July, 1944, all original and in great shape. Shoots excellent, too. Thanks for the reply.
