S&W Sigma .40... opinions

I am looking at possibly purchasing this gun. It's definitely in my price range at the moment. Just wondering if anyone out there owns this gun and can give me their opinion of it... other choice would be a taurs .40

    I would pass on the Sigma and either save up for a better gun or go with the Taurus--the Sigma was not S&W's finest hour in semi-auto design.

    For the same price, buy a used Ruger semi. Those things are built like tanks.

    Run faaar away from the sigmas. I had a .40s&w, it would jam every 3rd+/- shell. It would leave the spent case in the chamber. What was so bad is while at the range I had people say " yea I had one of those with the same problem" on two different trips!!!

    Crappy triggers too.

    IMO, better to spend a little more and get a better gun.

    FWIW, used Ruger automatics don't cost much more than Sigmas and are quality-wise probably better guns.

    Mine goes bang every time. The trigger sucks. It was inexpensive. I should have spent a bit more and got a used glock. Mine is a SW40VE and is reliable. YMMV

    PS It IS way better than a rock though.

    I would go with the S&W over the Taurus any day. The quality issues with Taurus are hit and miss. The S&W is basically a modified Glock and will go bang each and every time you need it to. Ithas not got the aftermarket parts available to it like the glock, so you are stuck with the trigger pull.

    If you wish to explore yet another route, take a hard look at the Springfield XD's. They have a big following, and are actually Glock's biggest rival in "Combat Tupperware".

    There are plenty of used Glocks on the auction side, the 17,19, 26 in 9mm, and the 22, 23, or 27 in 40 S&W. There are some great prices!

    Lastly, that brings up one more thing, is choice of chambering. I know the 40 has more horsepower than the 9mm, but the 9mm is less expensive, and always will be. It is easier to shoot, and get proficient with.
