Re barreling LH M70

I am getting conflicting information on whether I can rebarrel a 7mm Rem Mag LH Winchester M70 to 375 H and H using a factory take off
LH 375 H and H barrel.

Is the standard lonng action LH M70 action long enough and strong enough for the 375 H and H?

I may put the horse in front of the cart and purchased a LH 375 barrel
here at Gunbroker and it may not work with this action.

I am getting conflicting information and did not know if there was a gunsmith at this site who is familiar with this.

    Should work just fine. A friend of mine once had a Remington 700 30-06 re-barreled to 375H&H.

    i have two controlled feed left hand winchester rifles and the extractor cut in the barrel in on the left hand side,so i don,t think a right hand barrel will work on a left hand controlled feed action. if you have a left hand push feed action i think it would work as the barrels are just faced off and do not have the extractor cut. eastbank.

    This is where questions such as this get folks screwed up so let's take it one piece at a time.

    Yes. You will have to get a new magazine box and follower for the H&H.

    Absolutely. No question about it. It was chambered that way from the factory so it should be just as excellent now.

    The only reason I can see to address the take-off barrel as left hand is if it was for a Pre-'64 or Classic Winchester M70 which used the controlled round feed extractor. The extractor cut has to be located properly for the 'hand' of the action.

    Even with the action and the barrel being left hand, it's highly unlikely that the new barrel will headspace and index just by screwing it on the action. Winchester never timed their barrels to allow this. A gunsmith will have to set the headspace and index the barrel.

    Thanks for the answers, fellas

    I have been buying guns on Gunbroker for several years
    and have been pleased with the purchases.

    Both the action and the barrel are LH controlled round
    feed.

    I will find a Gunsmith to do the work
    The one I am familiar with does not do much machine work
    and only re barrels with new short chambered barrels using
    a finish reamer. He said it would be hit or miss on the
    headspace especially due to the bolt cut out and the rifle being drilled and tapped for sights from the factory.
    I assume that the factory drilled and tapped the sight holes
    after they had mounted to barrel to the reciever.

    When Winchester decided lefties were not cost effective
    the price of the 375 H and H LH M70 went to $1800-2000
