Which 45 to carry
Hi,
I'm currently trying to gather some info to help me decide which pistol I want to buy for CC. I've pretty much decided that I want a .45 for its proven and tested stopping power, availability/diversity of ammo, recoil, and ammo cost and therefore am trying to decide which of two guns to buy.
I've been looking at a Glock 30 and a Sig 220 carry. Not a fan of the 1911... just doesn't feel right in my hand or I'd be looking at one of those models as well.
I REALLY like the Sig but it's bigger, holds fewer rounds, and obviously costs more.
I like the Glock for it's, smaller size, parts availability, and cost, but it's mechanical accuracy appears to be inferior (out of the box anyway... is this true??). Practical accuracy is another thing, I know.
Assuming I can shoot each equally well, I suppose accuracy isn't a big deciding factor for these guns?
Comfort is a factor for me, but a gun should be comforting not comfortable.
I also like the look of the Sig better (probably not a good way to judge a firearm).
And so I'm looking for some responses from people that have actually carried either/both of these pistols, who can speak to ability to conceal, problems/success carrying, or shooting them in general.
I've considered that I'd probably carry either in a fanny pack, as opposed to the variations on waistband holders.
Can't afford both guns.
Any advice or input would help.

I believe in the hands of an experienced shooter, at combat distances, you will not see much difference, if any at all, between the Sig and the Glock in terms of accuracy. I would feel well armed with either pistol. The Sig may be a little bit safer for someone who is not very experienced. The Glock requires more training and practice. When Philadelphia PD switched to the Glock pistols, they had 40 accidental discharges in the first year. The adrenaline gets pumping and if your finger is on the trigger, you could have an "oops".
I have carried and fired both pistols, my choice would be the Sig 220, even though it carries less rounds, with 8 in the gun and an extra mag on your person, you have more than enough firepower for just about any situation you may encounter.0 -
I'm just the opposite: I carry a Springfield 1911A1 in small-of-the-back. Full 5" model. (I also carry 9mm, .357, .38, at different times).
I have a friend that has a Glock in .45ACP and I don't care for how it fits my hand.
True, the size of the 1911 can be an issue, but I've gotten used to it.0 -

My vote would go for the Sig. Personaly, this gun fits my hand better than the 1911 or the GLOCK, and it has the safety benefit of the DA first shot. Don't worry about the transition between the first shot DA and second, third shot etc. on SA. I have not found that a problem. It seems popular for some reason today to bilitle this system, but I have used Sig, Berreta, and CZ's with no problem. Especially for the fanny pack carry this could be an important safety to think of. Would'nt want to stuff my hand in there at high speed trying not to pull the light GLOCK triger. Personaly I carry Mexican most of the time. Oh, by the way, .45 cal is always a good choice. Just my 2 cents.

Why not try some of the alloy framed, 3" barreled 1911s out there? I have a few (Defender & EMP)and like them alot. I think the Defender is lighter, having thinner barrel walls. Each is reliable, there are many others to choose from.
My first CCW gun was a Commander, I went from that to a Detonics to J frame Smith, now I'm back to a 24 oz 1911.0 -

Well, I looked at the UC II and frankly it holds fewer rounds and still feels like a 1911... which just doesn't work for my hand. And for the same approx cost I can get the SIG, which I really like.0 -

Take a look at the Kahr P-45. I have 1911's, and Sig's, but carry the Kahr now in a inside holster. It hides under a loose T-shirt. It's smaller and lighter and holds almost as many rounds. 0 -
I have yet to get a .45 I carry 9mm Sig 226 or Glock 17 mostly. Was looking at cost factor and was thinking of a Ballester Molina or Ruger P90. Think I'll save up for awhile and get a CZ-97. They are supposed to be as accurate as Sig 220. I like my CZ-75 & Hi-Powers but I find for on the job everyday carry I'm switching back & forth each week to Glock or Sig for that week. Snub nose .38 Taurus Titanium for backup...all the time! 0
