How do I tell what kind of guns I have?
One is a mauser and the other a smith and wesson...

A S&W model 629? What caliber? The other looks like a Luger. Either a commercial model or its been reblued. 0 -
Both should have marking on the barrel, on the action or inside the crane to tell you the maker, the model and the caliber. 0 -
We need a lot more info, like markings and clear up close photos. 0 -
I'm guessing that "luger" is one of the late production models and would most likely be 9mm, but, i think they made some.22's too. 0 -
The revolver looks like a Smith & Wesson Model 629 .44 Magnum with 8 3/8" barrel.
The auto looks like a 1970s Mauser Parabellum, Swiss style straight frontstrap and 6" barrel. Might be a 9mm or a .30.0 -
Well, you came to the right place to find out. The "Luger" is a recent Mauser manufactured gun with the straight stock, and the grip safety. It is not a rare item.
The S&W is recent, also. Open the cylinder, and the stamping on the frame will tell you what you have. Current auction prices will give you a heads-up on the value. Best, Joe

The top is a S&W model 629 (.44 M) or 657 (.41 M) with 8 3/8" barrel.
I have one of the bottom gun. Its a Mauser Luger imported by Interarms.
