Reasonable Priced Gun Safe

I am looking to buy a gun safe. I am on a budget, around $600. I am not too concerned with someone coming in and using a crow and pry bar to pry one open. I don't need top of the line, and know I won't get it for the price range I am in. I do want to get teh most for what I do have to spend. I have been lookling at Steelwater Safes (www.steelwatergunsafe.com) anyone know anything about these? My use of the safe: 1.Keep my children away from them 2.Firearm protection 3.Theft deterrent 4. Ammo storage

Any input and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Sams club seem to have a pretty good safe in that price range

    #4 is not a good idea, old lockers are better for ammo storage.
    In case of fire, you don't want the ammo confined (actually it's the pressure from the confined powder), you want it to be able to vent off. Using something like a clothes locker and a padlock will keep you ammo secure yet allow it to vent off "just in case".

    OK ,,, any type of 'safe' is better than none , depends on what you are looking for and size ? harbor frieght tool (?) has some small (10-12 gun safes really reasonable ? and the ammo needs to not be in the safe .

    Thanks for the posts so far! Learned something about not putting the ammo in there. Makes sense. Hope to get more opinions as to a brand recommended or one to stay away from. I'm looking for 14-16 gun with a couple of shelves for pistols.

    There is a seller on Ebay that sells under the name "dixielock" he has some nice affordable safes. Do a search for sellers.

    I have 2 liberty safes that are great. theyre from the centurian line which isn't as "pretty" as their higher priced safes, but same fire rating etc. be warned, mine weigh 800 lbs each and had to be placed witth a forklift![:0]
    costco has some good looking safes in the $500-700 range which includes shipping! you can buy from costco online even if youre not a paid member, just costs more. the money you save on the safe would more than cover the basic membership wich is around 50 bucks.

    You may want to keep local due to the weight of most. Depending on the safe, shipping can be a major cost and if you need someone to bring it inside, having someone do it can get expensive. If there are steps involved, there can be a charge per step.

    I bought one from Sam's Club. As I recall it was in the $600-$700 price range. I have been very pleased with it. I would go for the push button combination as it is much quicker to use than the traditional turning knob combination lock.

    I have considered that option and always wondered how in the event of a fire you would be able to open it?
