Help with i.d. of old shotgun plse

Hello everyone, my first post here, sorry it is a post asking for help right off the bat.
O.k. about 25 years or so ago my Grandfather gave me an old double barrel shotgun he bought a flea-market, auction or something along those lines. He didnt know much about it.
The only marking's on it are Hartford Fire Arms on the left side of the reciever, and the number 76797 on the forearm (have to remove the forearm to see it). It is a double barrel side by side shotgun with double rabbit ear hammer's(one is homemade - badly), and double triggers.It has surface rust, but no pitting, the wood stock is in decent shape. I have searched the net a few times to no avail.
If anyone has any info on this firearm and maybe what the value of it is I would greatly appreciate it.

    Here are some pics if it will help, I tried to post them here, but couldnt figure it out, even after searching on the topic in the forum, some said to upload the pics to photobucket, click on the add pic button and post the link between the image brackets, but I only got an x.     Briley has a long list of brand names used by the Crescent Firearms Co and H.D. Folsom, including Hartford.

    Somebody on WikiAnswers pinned it down better:

    Hartford Arms Company: Trade name used by the H. & D. Folsom Arms on shotguns made for the Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri. It was probably manufactured in Belgium (look for an oval around "ELG*" on the action) sometime between the 1880's and WWI, but could have been made in Norwich, Ct, by Crescent Arms, 1893-1920.

    Okay, from reading the link posted, I discovered that this type of shotgun is virtually worthless, lol. I had a feeling that might be the case.Thats ok, Im not out of any money, and at least I know the answer to my question now.
    I guess my next ? would be, although it is virtually worthless does that mean it is literally worthless, is it even worth say $50 bucks? I realize the answer might be relative. I am just tired of it taking up room in the house, it's not going to go up in value, and has no real sentimental value, my grandfather gave me several nice firearms and knives, and its not like this was his personal shotgun.

    O.K. here is the final skinny on your Hartford Firearms Co or it may be named Hartford Arms Co. Written either way, it is a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one made by a major maker for and sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. Both names were made by the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1931). The first name was made for and sold by the Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis,MO and the second name was also sold by Simmons as well as by the Shapleigh Hardware Company also of St. Louis.MO. Sorry I can't tell you when the gun was made butt it had to be sometime between 1910 and 1925. Give me the serial number and I can give you a date. Value? Value of course will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish left on the metal and the wood as well as the mechanical condition.Value for a double barrel can range from a high of maybe $175 for an excellent condition example to less than $10 for a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit for a fire place poker Most go for about $65.00
