modifying the uzi feed ramp?

I plan on registering my Uzi as a Short Barrell Rifle. If this is done, can I legally mill the restrictor ring off the feed ramp to except an original SMG barrell? Or is modifying the ramp/ring compleatly out? I know it can be done, but is it legal? I really don't want to cut a 16" barrell, I would rather have an original.

  I just kept looking untill I found a later short barrel for mine.
  There are new 10" barrels listed on the auction side now [;)]

  Yes you can legally remove the restrictor ring if you like.
  
  It would probably be cheeper and easier just to find a barrel the length you want that has been turned for the restrictor ring. You can find turned barrels almost as easy as any other kind and very little difference in price.
