BROWNING BUTTPLATE

I am looking for a buttplate for a 1956 Browning Lightening model. I have purchased two, only to determine that they are not correct. One was for a newer model superposed, and the other (my mistake) was for an A-5.

Any suggestion on a location where one could be acquired would be appreciated.

This subject is for information only. I am not trying to undermine GB and buy "under the radar".

Got any pics of what the correct one is? I have a shoe box full of plates, post a pic of the right one with dimensions and I'd be happy to check. If I have one we can do a GB buy it now to alleviate any under the radar concerns.

I know some of the plates I have are Browning and FN Browning marked, but I wouldn't know a 1956 Lightning model butt plate if it smacked me it the face. [:)]

I do appreciate the reply. I have looked on the aution side and have not found anything other than a side-profile picture of what the buttplate should look like. If I can locate a picute I will post it later today.

As far as I know, Browning butt plates from that period were all hand finished to fit the stock. While they look the same they are quite different as you discovered. You are unlikely to find a used one that fits but you may find one that is over size and can be fitted to your stock. Sometimes new (old stock) Browning butt plates show up on auction sites; e bay used to be a pretty good source. These new ones are large enough to allow fitting to your stock. I was able to do that with a 60's A5 for which I had looked and looked for a used plate that would fit. . .without success.
