    Is this the new replacement for the 710? Any opinions on these? As always thanks for your replies.

    This is not a really great deal either, unless you are looking for a rifle you can not accessorize, as there is no aftermarket goodies for it, and it is basically a use it untill it wears out and throw it away type rifle.

    A Remington 700 or a Tikka T3 are great rifles too!

    Thanks again. Always liked Remington 700s. I have a 40-year old 870 Wingmnaster that stil shoots well and is still pretty to me. If Remington built me a 700 like my 870 I could not go wrong! I have seen the Tika and heard many good things about them. I am a history nut so that is why I would like a M-1. My Mom and Dad both shot them in the Army.

    I have 3 Benelli shotguns so I thought the R-1 would look good in the gun case with three of her "sisters".

    The 770 is a very "low grade" entry level gun. Quality is an issue. For low cost / high performance center fire, I would look at Savage. For optics, look for Burris, Sightron, Nikon, Leupold. (in that order IMO) I have regularly spent as much or more for optics than for the rifle I put them on.

    Savage, CZ, Tikka and Howa give you the most bang for a buck.

    Take it from a gun dealer of 20 plus years : DO NOT BUY A 770 !!!!! We have sent double digit totals of these back to Remington .. They have a"sleeved" bolt which does not function properly all the time .Also the trigger guard is part of the stock so if you fall and break the trigger guard you must replace the whole stock (not cheap).One I sold a guy in .7mm Rem mag shot one shell and the action/bolt froze up . These are major pieces of junk and basically have replaced the 710 model that has been recalled for problems in the past.Buy the Marlin XL7 or the Savage 111 Package they are both much better guns and in the same price range !

    i have a 770 in 308, i use it for hunting on rain and snow days, better to beat up on that than my browning safari, i was surprised at how well they shoot im getting 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards with factory ammo, never had a problem with it , had it for 3 or 4 years
    i kinda like it, was thinking of getting another one in 270

    Remington struck out with the 710 and then followed that by creating a slightly better, but still horribly put together 770. You can pick up a Savage, Stevens, or used Ruger 77 for that price and get much more gun for your buck.
