Anyone shoot Eley Tenex?
I'm still trying to find something as good as the older production Federal 711B with the dimpled case head. Didn't seem to matter what gun I put that stuff in, it would show a significant improvement in group sizes. Unlike the new stuff which doesn't seem to be any different than any other cheaper federal 22 ammo. In fact Remington Thunderbolt groups better than the new Federal 711B in everything I've tried it in so far. But I miss that old significant difference in groups from the old 711B. Even that Remington/Eley Target stuff I picked up at Gander wasn't any better than just plain old Remington Thunderbolt. Was thinking maybe I'd give Eley Tenex a try. Anyone try it?

Hello Lee I don't know what you are shooting but I have shot tens of thousands of rounds of ten X along with other brands of match ammo IMHO you need to test each brand and lot number to fine the best for your firearm. Champions Choice WWW.champchoice.com has bunches of different brands of Fresh Match ammo Talk to " Homer" and buy a brick of 4 or five different lots of different brands Tell homer what you are doing and then test each lot and pick the best lot and then call homer back and tell him you want to buy Case or cases of this lot number. I do have a brick of Dimple base Federal I will sell you go to my profile or double click on my name to send me an email I will put up for auction. IF you don't live in CA. 0 -
I tryed several brands of match ammo in my Win. model 52 and then found that the old Federal lightning shot just as good and better than some and cost a lot less,i have several bricks left and keep them for a rainy day. 0 -
For shooting at 50 yards, all my guns like the cci 40 grain mini mags. But for shooting at 100 yards, I haven't found anything that will outperform the eley club extra. 0 -
I shoot some heavy barrel bolt guns that shoot better than I do. Have been trying different Match 22 LR rounds. While many folks swear by the Eley Tenex, did not do a lot for me. Wolf and Fiocchi make a nice match round, as do Wolf (no, really good- honest) Lapua Master, and Nobel R-50. But to be honest, that is some pricy crap. Check Dick's Sporting Goods (only place I can find the stuff) for Federal Champion Target STANDARD VELOCITY. Everybody has the HIGH velocity- you don't want that. It is about $20 a brick, and shoots almost as good as good match ammo in my Mossys and Remingtons. 0 -

I just finished building up a 10/22, still looking for that perfect ammo myself... I've tried Ely Sport, Aguila "match", CCI blazer and minimags, Rem Golden Bullets, Winchester Super-X and T-22, Federal Match, Fed. American Eagle.
Most pattern, a few - Fed Match, Aguila Match - do pretty good but CCI Blazer beats 'em all. Happy for my wallet at least I guess...
I'm still looking to find a box of Wolf MT locally before I order a brick (bricks are expensive when it turns out to pattern instead of group!), and I'll happily try any box of anything I can get a hold of, at least once.
Anyway, try the Wolf ME or MT if you can find it - has a great reputation on rimfirecentral0 -

The Federal Champion Target STANDARD VELOCITY was, supposedly, the exact same ammo as the 711B "gold medal" that for one reason or another didn't quite make spec. So it was repackaged as standard target ammo, first in red boxes, then eventually in the blue "Champion" boxes.
For the price it was probably the best ammo out there and I used to shoot quite a lot of it. At one point Dicks bought up all the remaining supply of it, which is why you couldn't find it anywhere else.
Unfortunately, Federal discontinued this round about 1-2 years ago. They don't list it in their catalog and the supply has been exhausted. Federal has no plans to make more of it.
Probably the best affordable match-type ammo now is the Wolf Match extra (which is NOT made in Russia like most of the "Wolf" brands, but rather in Germany).0 -
I am always amazed as to the accuracy difference in 22 ammo. I've got a few Winchester 52's that I shoot regularly and what they like usually is not the most expensive ammo such as Eley Tenex.
Several years ago I bought a brand new Cadallic and paid just shy of 50k. It was the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. Price definitely does not mean quality.
Currently, I shoot standard velocity 22's and use a headspace gauge to sort them.
Although one of the better high velocity 22 ammo that I like is the Federal Premium Gold Medal #719. I paid $250 for a case of 5000 about 3 or 4 years ago. Not sure they even make it anymore and if they do, I'm sure the price as gone up.
If I do shoot any Eley ammo, the Club (Orange Box) works just fine for me. Normally I shoot 100 yards to gauge rimfire ammo accuracy.0 -
As above try the full arnge of ammo out , until you find some that groups well.As a rule i stick to winny subs or magtec subs, on the dot for me & my buckmark..but all barrels have diffrent tastes.
Tenx is good, reliable & consistant but .wheyyyyyyyyy over $ for me.0 -
was in walmart the other day and noticed some fed. "auto match" #am22 on the shelf. bought a box and tried it in my Suhl 150, shot as well as some Lapua 'master L'. $16 for 325 rds. 0
