Absolutely not, As you can see ar mags will not fit in the mag well, and there is no way to remove or replace the reciever extension.. The M&P-15-22 is a dedicated .22LR only rifle.. If you want an AR-15, you will have to buy one..
Welcome to the forums, by the way.0 -

No. The MP-22 *looks* like an AR-15, but its really NOT the same gun.
You can't do this conversion. . .or at least you can't do it in any conceivable way that it would be cost-effective or practical.
If you want a "real" AR-15, just buy one.0 -
Smith made the M&P15-22 lower smaller just so noboby can put a 5.56 upper on it.
Like said, if you want a 223 AR, buy one [;)]0 -
Its just a cheaper nock of of the ar-15 lower. Know way to put a ar-15 upper on this lower. 0 -

Yea i was hoping to upgrade my new m&p 15-22 to a .223. i was hoping there was a reverse upgrade to this rifle. I dont know alot about it though. it seems like a great gun, i wanted the ar-15, but i cant afford to put a grand into a bare gun. i didnt see it to be possible for this to be a new fix, but Is it possible for some company to make or manufacture a new upper reciever and magazine cartridge to take a .223 round? Anyone ever heard any rumor of this.??? This is such a good price on it, it would be a good price to start plinking and shooting around, especially for the price of .22 ammo. i cant justify giving that kinda money to make a pop and bang. any ideas or intel will be appreciated. 0 -
If you want a real AR you have to buy a real AR, it is that simple.
The "Colt", S&W, Sig, ect .22 caliber guns are .22 rifles built to LOOK like the AR-15 (or Sig 556) but built in different ways with cheeper parts to fill a market niche. IF these guns had been built to be converted to other calibers and use interchangeable part then it would cost what a real AR does.........
You can get a real AR in .22 caliber but you will pay the price of a real AR for one since it is a real AR.0 -
A question about the S&W M&P 15.22's. Has anybody heard about them firing out of battery and blowing the bolt apart [?]
I've heard from friends about three doing it so far at our local range.0
