Left Handed Mausers

How rare are left handed Mauser 98s? I was told they are extremely rare and if you find one it is the product of an extreme amount of gunsmithing skill and effort. I have two customized by Roy Vail. Just wondering if left handed Mauser 98 actions/bolts are truly rare..... See 2 pics below. One is in 458 Win and the other 7 mm Rem Mag.

    THEY ARN'T 'RARE' (AS IN FACTORY PRODUCED) THEY ARE '1 OF' AS IN CUSTOM CONVERTED FROM R.H. AS SUTCH THEY HAVE NO 'COLLECTOR VALUE', JUST VALUED AS A CUSTOME 'SHOOTER'. STILL VERY NICE RIFLES.

    P.O. Ackley had some left handed 98 mausers produced.

    Although the rifle in the picture looks like a conversion to left hand Mauser did offer a left-hand rifle. I have examined one rifle, a sporter by Gibbs of Bristol, England that looked like an original Mauser left-hand action. That's the only one I have ever seen or heard of.

    Left handed Zastava Mausers are now being imported into the USA.

    I built a LH '03 in .264 WinMag for a good friend years ago. A lot of trial & error, cussing, and hours went into it, enough that I would never think of attempting another one.

    i saw a rem. 722 converted to left hand and it was a very good job,i think the man who built it lived in mt. holly springs pa. eastbank.

    While the ones you show are not collectable from a "factory" standpoint, they are collectable from the "Roy Vail" standpoint. While he isn't THE top custom gun-maker to come around. he did some nice work. I've seen his rifles sell in the $2000-$4000 range. I'm sure that if those two rifles shoot and function well they could at least bring somewhere close to that.
