ruger 44 carbine FTF
Hi folks,
I bought a 44 Carbine,
vintage 1971. I handloaded
265 gr JFP on top of 8.6
gr Unique and she fired and ejected
fine but did not feed, bumped
it up to 9.3 gr of Unique, same thing.
No signs of over pressure.
Can anybody help me.
Thank-Ron

I'm not familiar with the Ruger 44, does the bolt stay back on the last round from the mag? If so, have you popped in one round in the mag & fired to determine if the load generates enough pressure to properly cycle the bolt? 0 -
The spent cartridge
ejects, the bolt
closes but doesn't
chamnber another round.
This has to be done manualy0 -
Try some factory rounds. Sounds like yours may be too light. 0 -
That's called a feature of the 44 Carbine. I've had 3 and 2 of them did like yours. Seems the lift won't pick-up the second or third round. I tried factory hot loads and several handloads without success. When Ruger wasn't able to correct the one I sent in, I passed it on to another lucky winner. This is the reason for their early demise. 0 -
That's just great Bullet[:(] 0 -
I've a similar vintage one, only jams I've had are the occasional stove pipe.
Take it down, give it a good cleaning, try some factory ammo. Mine likes winchester white box 240grn jsp loads.0 -

Get it off the diet of Unique, and step it up with H-110 or 2400. Those Ruger carbines need hot ammo to cycle. They are not made for target loads, and refrain from using cast bullets.
