Slugs will be fine in your gun. Accuracy won't be the best because the tubes are regulated to a point out perhaps 100' from the muzzles and thereafter cross paths.

Liability laws are such that it's obvious that slugs must be safe in all chokes. Keep in mind that while your shotgun will safely shoot slugs, it was designed for using shot on upland game. A Remington 870, a Ithaca 34, or a Winnie M-12, or a good Mossy are far better slug tossers.

While you could shoot slugs through the 311, I think you would be better off to pick up a Mossberg 500 for about $150 and set it up to use as a slug gun. It would be easier to zero it in than trying to guess about the double barrel.

Before you go buying a brand new shootin iron, give the stevens a chance. get a handful of cheap 20 guage slugs and shoot them at 35 yards which is about the normal range that a careful slug hunter gets a deer and see what it does. A smoothbore is a law unto itself and some do well. Guys did OK with slugs for 50 + years before the rifled barrels came in. Also the early 311's with walnut stocks have been going up in value for the last 5 years so don't sell yours too cheap (esp 20 and .410 guages)
