stevens 308
got a friend needing some money. He wants to sell a savage 308 with a synthetic stock no scope, says it shoots good. Im a rem. man so i know nothing about a stevens.He wants to sell for 225.00 it looks to be in good shape and a 308 is one cal. i do not have. 225.00 vs. 600+ for a rem. Is it a good price?? though i will have one in a rem. some day but not in the near future.I also reload and would like to try to load some for a 308. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.

I assume you're talking about the Stevens model 200, which is merely a Savage 110. I don't personally own one, but I've heard nothing but good things about the rifle. I've heard they shoot exceptionally well, and if you don't like the stock, you could dress that pretty reasonably. Plus, if you wanted to change the barrels to a different caliber, that's relatively easy if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. Brownells sells ready-to-mount savage barrel kits for a pretty reasonable price and they have several calibers. Shilen also makes a barrel switch kit for the savage, and the list of calibers they have is about endless. For $225, I don't think you are getting hurt at all. 0 -

i have one in 7-08 and it works and shoots just fine. no frills and not the best looking rifle around but very accurate and it doesn't make you real mad if you scratch it up some. 0 -
As long as you accept it for what it is, you will have an inexpensive hunting gun. If you start trying to make it a bells and whistles Savage 10, you'll soon get as much into it as the real thing would cost. It's hard to find a $225 rifle that will outperform the Stevens 200. I just gave one to my son for Xmas and it even has a decent trigger pull. 0
