Case Colored Model 1890

Check out the picture of this case colored Winchester 1890. It's over 100 years old and much of the brilliant colors are still evident with the bright purple, blue, green, etc. Just imagine how strong and vivid these colors would have been when the rifle was new!:

    Kimi, Bert's buddy Larry Shennum has a couple of vintage Marlin lever guns that look like they just left the factory, Turnbull would be envious of the color case on these rifles!
    Maybe if we pester Bert enough he'll post some pics of them?[:)]

    I beleieve it. Thanks for the info. The case coloring on some of those Marlins is so grand it's just unbelieveable. Bert, where you at this morning, Bud?! [:)]

    I was ay my work office for 8+ hours today... no stinking rest for the weary[:(]

    I do not know if Larry has any pictures available of his Marlin Model 1893s... one is a 38-55, the other is a 30-30 Take Down. I tease him frequently about buying them to use as Tomato stakes[}:)][:D]

    Beautiful!!!! What caliber is that in? Short, Long, or WRF? I love 1890 Winnys. One other thing...didnt 1890's have the serial number on the front of the receiver also? That one only seems to have it on the lower tang.

    Serial numbers were stamped on the lower tang only up to circa serial umber 232328, when at that time, Winchester stamped the serial number on both the receiver and the lower tang.

    It is beautiful. I took this picture from another site to continue discussing case coloring. This rifle was a .22WRF as I remember. The serial numbers on the 1890 was on the lower tang only until at some point past the 200,000 mark when it was put on the lower front of the receiver also.
