Model 12 ,Skeet , 12 GA, 26Inch BBL. FULL Choke

Not a regular user of the forum but here we go. Bear with me if I miss a rule, I didi try to understand it all!
Okay Got this Model 12 WInchester 12 Gauge witha 26 inch full choked bbl.
I am not educated in these at all but could use some words on just what I got, her age and why a skeet gun has a full choke bbl on her in the rirst place! Makes no sense to me. Straighten me out huh?
Also milled rib and solid rib. How to tell what one we got here
I had a guy ask me if it was a REAL skeet model today, what's that all about? SOmething I have to look for on her again maybe?
Got some beautiful wood on her too, robably one of the nicest I own now since i bought this one.
Wonder how I did buying it compared to what it will bring when I sell her. Times are getn tuff where I live, maay have to dump this and the 20 ga as well. We'll see I guess.

PS it says SKEET on the bottom of the gun under the slide handle that is huge compared to the one on the 20 ga!

    I'm not a M12 expert but I'll try and help. A Solid rib is just that....A solid piece of steel on top of the barrel.No ventilation slots.On your 26"full choke I'd say someone switched barrels. I'm sure someone will chime in who knows more. Good luck. Look up all the M12's for sale on GB and see the pics and descriptions,Trap,Skeet, Duck Bill rib,donut posts,3 pin ribs, 2 pin ribs,Cutts compensater,Y model,Nickel Steel etc,etc. Plus you'll get a range of prices it might be worth.They made millions of them and you could order one your way.

    Without pictures, we are for the most part, in the dark so-to-speak. The 26-inch FULL choke barrel is extremely odd for a Skeet Gun. For starters, what is the serial number on the receiver frame and the barrel assembly... do they match?

    You may have a skeet grade M12 that was ordered from the factory with a full choke, or you may have, as was previously stated, a replacement barrel. Is the gun marked "skeet"? Close up pictures of the gun at all angles would be needed as well as more information such as barrel stampings and serial number range would also be helpful.

    Thanks I dont know how to post a picture. Can I get a helpin hand so you can see this creature? The numbers match and it says on other sites to be a 1948 model gun. It says skeet on the bottom as well so I am hoping this is a good one. Thanks

    Well, from my experience in the clay target shooting sports - I wouldn't recommend using a full choke for Skeet - generally the preferred choke is something between cylinder and improved cylinder - usually referred to as a "skeet" choke. The wider pattern gives better results/hits on the closer and crossing shots. Trap shooting is generally done with a full choke, although some very fine shooters prefer a modified choke - these are the guys with quick reactions and hit the "going away" birds quickly. I've used up to XX full chokes and found them to be very demanding for hits on the Trap range. I'd suspect a gun marked as a "Skeet" model with a fixed full choke barrel was either rebarrelled at some point or was used by a world class shooter who liked to blast the hell out of the birds. ????

    Thank you very much for the info you guys offered however i am not smart enough to post a picture yet so again I do appreciate all your effort in this issue.
    This guy was a Pheasant hunter from he** hunting the great Horicon marsh in Wisconsin and hit birds at amazing ranges with me as a witness many years ago. this guy swears this is exactly the way the gun was ordered with a 26 inch Full choked bbl? Who am I to argue with this guy when after all he taught me everything I know about the sport of huntin "chickens" in Central Wisconsin and he hit birds that were just cruisin to say the least. Out there in such a huge marsh we harvested many of these birds and I still have tail feahers OVER 27 inches! I have never seen birds that are true native birds since with feathers like that!!
