Buddy needs money

My buddy has a Century Arms L1a1 with about 1000 rounds of ammo.
2 mags.
Wants $800 bucks for it, it is in good shape.
Looking at it as an investment.
Ammo. is all sealed in plastic in metal ammo. cans.
Thinking I can't go wrong right?

    It would help if we knew the exact caliber of the ammo, as well as type primer & corrosive or not. But, good 7.62 X 51 is worth about $.50 a round today.

    The rifles have a spotty record, some good, some bad. You could be forced to spend several hundred $ to fix it
    or not.

    But, investment? It's your choice, but my "investments" are all top quality.

    Welcome to the forum! If his L1A1 shoots good, it sounds like a very good deal to me. I own one like his and have had no problems with it at all. Some of them had a few problems, so be sure to shoot it before you buy. I paid $500 for mine about 4 years ago at a pawn shop. The ammo is worth quite a bit so you are getting a bargain price on the gun. Good luck and good shooting!

    Century may be hit or miss... but usually easy to fix, and with the ammo value, you are paying a great price for the rifle.

    Can you shoot the rifle first to check for issues?

    I am going to meet him at my gunclub to check it out and shoot a few mags through it.

    I've used the Century FAL - damned heaviest trigger pull I've ever dealth with, had a trigger spring so long it stacked & went solid just before hammer fall. Was easy to correct though and otherwise shot fine.

    Worst case scenario - the gun craps out, sell it for $500.00 and keep the ammo I suppose.

    It is a $400 rifle.

    Anything that has a Century Arms pedigree is not of collector name brand or quality, for investment purposes...unless you like bad investing. Some goes for Hesse, Vulcan, or Blackthorne. All of the above are iffy for even shooter quality. Collector/investment quality will say Colt, Winchester, and in Para-Military circles, HK, Sig, Poly Tech, etc.
