I'm thinking about putting this up for sale and would appreciate any info regarding the heritage, price range etc..

Double Barrel shotgun ~16 gauge. SN= 34007.

    Thank you for taking the time to make the new pictures, they are what we need to help a little.

    "flussstahl" is fluid steel or modern munition steel.

    Krupp is the manufacturer of the steel.

    Essen is the name of the town where the Krupp factory was located.

    Fritz Wagner was the gunmaker.

    Crown over U is proof approved in assemble form.

    Crown over W is choked barrels.

    17/1 is the 1st firearm proved in the year 1917.

    The little feathered creature is a mark signifying a repair in later years. It's difficult to tell which one it is and there are several variations. This one looks like it was proofed again in Ulm, East Germany.

    There is alot left to be known now...to determine if our Fritz Wagner was the painter (1896 -1939) or the entomologist and insect dealer (same period).

    Are these shotguns known by the manufacturer's name or the smith's name? I mean, what are these referred to as?

    I can see that the value of this would be determined by several different factors...

    My reference shows two gunsmiths by the name of Fritz Wagner, located in Suhl and Zella-Mehlis Germany. Given that, and Altenburg is within 60 miles of these two towns. My WAG is that Fritz Wagner is the gunsmith who made the shotgun, rather then the owner.

    Chances are a 16 gauge shotgun like yours would have more value in it's country of origin rather then here in the States. Specially now with lots of folks out of work, and the economy in the toilet. Lots of guns like yours, were brought back as souvenirs by our G.I.'s after the end of the war in 45.

    Their is a couple of shotgun specific web site on the net. Foreign collectors and dealers frequent them. One is "Shotgun World"?, I believe. You might GOOGLE it, if none of our folks can help you vis a vis value, you might try over there.
