Lapping rings?
What exactly is meant by lapping rings on a scope install?

It is the process of using a polishing compound with a round rod to knock the high spots off of the ring inner surface for a better fit to the scope tube.
If you use Burris Signature rings to begin with you never have to lap a ring.. [;)]0 -
When you install a pair of rings on a gun, they may not be perfectly aligned. Tightening them on a scope if out of alignment can put pressure on one area of the scope, possibly putting a crimp in it &/or damaging internal parts. A ring lapper is a cylinder coated with abrasive that allows you to "true" the inside surfaces of the rings.

And the Burris Signature really are great to help with alignment issues too. I had a scope that didn't have enough adjustment...two offsets inserts...problem solved!! 0
