Remington and Federal 45/70Gov't
Hello Experts.
I have a bunch of ammunition, two types of it actually.
- 1 : Remington Express Rifle. 45-70 Government. 300 gr SJHP R4570L. "FOR USE IN ALL RIFLES"
Loaded to original specs, as far as I can see - this is a jacketed hollow point.
- 2 : Federal Classic. 45-70Gov't. 300 gr Sierra Pro-Hunter HP FN.
What kind of pressure does these two generate.?
I know the Remington gives 2950joule and the Federal about 3100joule of energy at the muzzle.
Federal : 1880fps, 2355ft.lbs. with a 300gr
I'm just interested to know, if they both keep under the 29.000 C.U.P ?!??!??!?

Remington and Federal are SAAMI members, surely their factory loads are within the 29,000 CUP limit. Anything labeled "for all rifles" is probably lighter than that. But a jacketed 300 grain bullet is not otherwise original. 0 -
Yeah, I would love to have some cast/hardcast 400-405grs for it - but they're unavailable to me here - and reloading is not an option.
So I just wanted to hear a little about Remington and Federal.
I havent been able to find it for sure... and just don't want half a Sharps-reproduction stuck in my teeth0 -
They will be fine in your Sharps (if the headspace and action are good). These are loaded to be safe in the Trapdoor Springfields, which are weaker than the Sharps.

can you purchase ammo made in the U.S. look at Midway Cabelas etc They sell lead bullet loaded ammo made by ultra max and others for Cowboy action shooting.
EDITBoth Cabelas and Midway will ship overseas I did not think they had a store in Greenland but that is why I asked. I dont think Remington or Federal made ammo in Greenland I did read his profile[:p] just trying to give another choice in brands[:)]0 -
They'll be used in an italian reproduction of the Sharps 1874 Sporter.
Davide Pedersoli - a brandspanking new firearm.0 -
Can't address the Federal's..but the Remington 45-70 marked 'Safe For All Rifles' is Okay to use in Springfield 1873 clones. Your Sharps (by design) is stronger than the 1873 design. Best, Joe 0 -
I don't think Cabela's has a store in Iceland yet. 0 -
I live in Greenland.... but ok, we've got ice here too. [;)]
Thank you for the replies =o)
I guess it'll be safe to use both in the Sharps then... there isn't much difference in Energy between the two - just had to be sure.0 -

When I ask.... no they won't. - Or shipping will be excessive.
When I ask in canada - they will only export a whole pallett... which is a bit more than I need.
Federal and Remington are my options - reloading is out of the question.
Otherwise I've found some at Cabelas, that I would have ordered if I could - Ultramax bulk and perhaps BuffaloBore eventhough it's weaker than the stuff I got for my Marlin leveractions.0
