Ambidextrous safeties ??

Colt Super
My nearly new Colt Commander had an ambi safety from the factory.

Other than for lefties, is there another point to them ??

I'm thinking of having it changed.

    For a self defence handgun having controls on both sides can be darned useful if your primary hand is injured or immobilized. Change it around if you like, it wont hurt anything.

    Mr. Christian has it.

    Most right-handed individuals also have left hands, and every once in a while might even use them. . . [;)]

    Unless it somehow gets in the way of your shooting, personally I'd just leave it alone.

    As a minor point, if necessary, its possible to disengage/engage a normal right-handed thumb safety on a 1911 type pistol using the index finger of the left hand. Ambidextrous safety is, of course, still easier to use.

    Edit: One other thing. Just because YOU are right-handed, that doesn't mean that every person you might hypothetically loan the gun to is that way. I occasionally go shooting with lefties, and the nice thumbrests on my target pistols (or thumbhole rifle stocks) are especially vexing because they make the guns unshootable for left-handers.

    I don't like the extra width it adds to the pistol.

    But your points make sense, so I'll leave it alone.
