Rem 700 DMSS Synthetic

I have this Rem. 700 Detachable magazine SS with a synthetic stock. It doesn't shoot quite as well as I had hoped. I am toying with the idea of having it pillar bedded and glassed. Or should I just purchase a stock from Hogue and throw the remington synthetic stock in the trash. The synthetic stock is essentially an "inexpensive" injection molded plastic, not at all like the ones they use now. Like everything it boils down to money. How much would the bedding and glassing cost and do you think it is a viable thing to do or is it a waste of time and effort?

    It is a waste of money to do anything to your Remington stock.

    Start searching for a good synthetic stock made by a reputable manufacturer such as McMillan, Manners, HS Precision, Bell and Carlson, etc. Have which ever one you chose pillar bedded except for the HS or some models of the B&C which will need a skim bedding only. Save your money as far as the Hogue stock is concerned, they aren't worth it no matter what the advertising states.

    Check www.stockysstocks.com for some that might work without the wait for a custom stock.

    Thanks for the advice. That's pretty much what I had thought. The problem with the aftermarket stocks is not that many will fit the Detachable magazine. I won't spend any time messing with the present stock. Thanks again for the input.
