Marlin Model 81 Serial #
Today I was lucky enough to be given two Marlin Model 81 .22 rifles from my dad. One is extremely rusted which I plan on doing my best to fix up. The other is in good shape. I can't find a serial number on either one. Does anyone know where it's located? Also, I haven't checked the auction side yet but if I don't have any luck, where do I find parts for these guns? Thanks guys

Might not have Serial nubers if made prior to 1968. Lots of parts on auction side. Was looking at them today. Also check Numrich Arms or Bobs gunparts. What parts you need? 0 -
I need a trigger, and some sights. maybe some springs. And a whole lot more experience than what I got!! The rest depends on how well the rust removal goes. But it's my first proeject ever, so I'll enjoy it and not stress no matter how it comes out. It was free. 0 -
Use Kroil to remove rust keep parts wet with the Kroil for 24-48 hours then use brass pot scrubber. DO NOT use steel wool or any kind of abrasive / sand paper. 0 -
Here is an extractor, there use to be quite a few parts for these rifle on e-bay this may be dried up due to their anti gun policies. If the rifle has a clear bore I would just clean the heavy rust up make your repairs and leave it alone shoot it as is.

That's the spirit. Pretty common model, so parts shouldn't be too hard to find. You'll likely find that parts expense may exceed finished project value. But tht's not including the fun had and experience gained. Just take your time and have a good learning experience. And know there's plenty of help available on the net.0
