Weatherby 460 Mark V
I have a 460 Mark V with a Weatherby Scope 3x.9x40 that I would like to sell. I'm not sure how much to ask. Any ideas? Serial Number H725XX. I have never fired it, not sure if it has ever been fired. Has to minor scratches on stock, otherwise in beautiful condition.

There is one similar to yours with a scope with a $2600 starting bid and $3000 buy it now price with no offers. You can make your conclusion from that. 0 -

The big difference is the price and collectability of the German versus the Japanese Mark Vs. The German guns carry a 25% +/- premium in equal condition. In terms of accuracy and other general quality factors the Japanese guns are probably equal to the German ones. So, if you want one to hunt, shoot, and use hard, might as well be one of the Japanese guns. For collectors the German guns are the ones that are sought after. And the earlier Weatherby US guns too for that matter. 0 -
As a prior owner of two 460 Mark V's I will say this: They are very nice weapons, German or Japanese. On both of mine I had to send them back to the Custom Shop to have open sights installed. As I recall, cost about $300.00 each. When I bought them new in the late 80's, they cost about $1200.00 a piece. Ammo at that time was about $60.00 a box, now I think over $100.00 a box! Anyway, I am no stranger to heavy recoil rifles, but I did find the 460 a rather punishing rifle after the third shot! I was trying to sell them in the late 90's when down sizing my collection and just couldn't find a buyer! Lots of lookers, but no buyers! After about two months a dealer came to look at some other guns and said he didn't have any interest in the 460's. He left, and called about an hour later and said "I just talked to my buddy, and we both decided we have to have those guns!" He returned and bought them both for $2200.00. Only point I am trying to make is, the 460 is kind of a specialty item and is limited to a smaller interest group. But, if you hang in there you should be able to sell it at a fair price. A fellow I use to hang around with about 30 years ago had one of these. His father owned a sporting goods store and he bought one more or less as a lark. He use to get a real kick so to speak when some customer would spout off about what a large caliber rifle they had that they used for hunting. He would more or less goat them into proving that if they really had the nads they would take a shot with this rifle. I never saw anyone willing to shoot it without having him shoot it first. The first time I saw one of those 460 rounds I thought it looked like a shortened cigar compared to my 308. If I remember correctly he had a 2x Leupold scope mounted on it. It seemed no matter how you tied to shoulder the thing as well as keep your face as far back from that scope it would always just barely (if you were lucky) not kiss you. I only fired that rifle 3 times and that was more than enough for me. It definitely wasn't meant for a day at the range to plink with. Also he didn't have any sort of muzzle break on it so you always got the full brunt of it. I hadn't thought about that rifle in years until I read this post. It sort of brought back some amusing memories.[:o)] 0 -
I HAD A JAP. RIFLE FOR A SHORT TIME AND IT SHOT WELL. I JUST NOTICED AN ADD WERE THEY ARE 'CLOSE OUT' SOME WEATHERBY'S AND HAVE THE .460 LISTED AT $1500 NEW. 0
