Shoot them both off a benchrest at a target about 100 yards away. Keep the one that shoots best.

I appreciate the advice. Is there any qualitative difference between the older Mini's and the new ones?

Probably not but there has been some upgrades to the Mini through out time, I am not sure at what intervals they happened.

I can only speak for the Mini 14's...I have had three or four in the past and was lucky to keep my groups under 12" at 100 yards, my new Mini 14 with the 16" barrel and flash hider shoots as well as my Bushmaster AR-15! A very noticeable improvement. Not sure what Ruger did to the new guns, but they are more accurate than the older ones.
(unless I just got lucky with this one).

Using the ammo you like shoot a 50 yards or 100 yards to see which shoots best.

The older model will have a walnut stock and metal butt plate. I don't have any imformation on the barrels the is quite a veration in quality and its something to consider and look into. Keep them both!
