What is the loading procedure for having a full clip and have a round in the spout?

    I always put one in a Magazine, put it in place, rack the slide, drop the magazine, load it completely and put it in place...or insert a full magazine, rack the slide, drop the mag. top it off and put it back in place. All while keeping the barrel pointed in a safe direction...


    Am I missing something in your question ???

    Same as any other semi-automatic gun.

    I'm not sure I could say this is "standard procedure", but this is how I do it:

    a. Point gun in SAFE direction, finger OFF trigger.
    b. Eject magazine in controlled fashion and place on working surface. (ie do not let mag crash to floor).
    c. Retract slide to rear and visually inspect chamber to ensure gun is empty. (Not a bad idea to lock slide back using slide lock).

    Gun is empty and ready to load.

    d. Load magazine to capacity.
    e. Insert full magazine into gun.
    f. Rack slide, by pulling to rear briskly, allowing grip to "break" to have slide rebound and load round from magazine into chamber. Make sure the entire time the gun is pointed in a safe direction and your finger is outside the triggerguard.

    Gun is now loaded. To top off:

    g. Eject magazine.
    h. Top off magazine by adding one more round.
    i. Replace magazine and ensure it is seated correctly.
    j. Holster gun; you are loaded to capacity.

    Note that since they lack an external safety, and have a relatively light standard trigger of 5.5 lbs, Glocks really SHOULD (I'd say "must") be carried in a holster that covers the trigger guard.

    Note that you do NOT "ride" the slide back into battery; you pull it hard briskly, and let it snap back under full spring pressure to ensure proper chambering of a round. You won't damage the gun this way, the live round acts as a cushion and the gun does this all by itself every time you fire a round. Slowing the slide when it falls into battery is a good way to ensure a misfeed.

    Also note that you DO NOT drop a live round directly into the chamber. With certain guns doing this can damage the extractor. This is an emergency technique to be used only if you don't have a functional magazine.
