How do you reload 9MM +P loads

I can't find info on 9MM +P loads in any of my reloading books.

    For legal liability reasons all the resent reloading books have been neutered, to make them lawyer proof. Your pretty much on your own, to work up your own loads by trial an error. Or using some boneheads data off the net.

    As a bonehead with 30 some years as a commercial reloader, the small manufacturers reloading pamphlets usually have a +P or +P+ section, and some of the larger manuals do also. My Hodgdon manual has +P loads listed. There usually are no+P type loads for magnum handgun calibers. The +P load I use is 5.7grs WC231( non cannister version of Win 231/HP38. (You can get WC 231 from Pats Reloading.pjmcdon@aol.com) under a 124gr Rem or Gold Dot JHP. Better yet buy a .45 Do not use foreign made cases, or US GI. I use FC +P cases, or CorBon.

    Do not batter your frame with so called +P loads. You know better than that. And it surprises me that you would solicite data on the www by word of mouth, you have a lot more experience than that. If you truely think you need more power switch calibers, say .357 mag or maybe a sig.

    IMO, there is very little reason TO reload 9mm+P rounds.

    There is nothing "so-called" about high-pressure 9mm loads, 9mm+P is a recognized SAAMI category, and pretty much EVERY modern service 9mm (Sig, Glock, Ruger, Smith, CZ, etc) is rated for +P loads, and should be safe with them.

    Some of these guns are tough as bricks (eg Glock, CZ) and can probably handle thousands of +P rounds just fine.

    Personally speaking, I can barely tell the difference in recoil between +P and non +P loads from a 9mm, even out of polymer frame guns. So I don't think there is much benefit to practicing with them.

    For practice, load ordinary loads. They're cheaper, safer (offer more margin for error), and will result in a bit less wear and tear on your gun.

    For carry/defensive use, you probably shouldn't be using reloads anyway.

    If you really need to fire a LOT of super-hot 9mm+P type loads (eg in an attempt to make "major", etc) then you probably should choose a different caliber to reload, like .357 SIG or 9x23 Winchester.

    Note that the hotter 9mm +P rounds run just shy of ordinary commercial 357 SIG loads.

    A top standard handbook load of Power Pistol will approach +P velocity and exceed it in flash and blast, which will FEEL sufficiently manly to satisfy most.
