superiorgrind,
Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!
My question would have to be, from whom or where did you hear this information? I'm just curious.
A major manufacturer will rarely turn a machine on for a run of 100 rifles as it's too costly right from the start without charging an incredible price or maybe marking it as a 'Limited Edition' or something similar.
I have no documentation of the model release numbers but I happen to personally know the engineer who worked on the project so I can ask him on Monday for some of the background.
This is the description of the CZ M700/M700M1:
"M700 series sniper rifles developed by Czheska Sbrojevka - Uhersky Brod SA, or CZ-UB, in short, in Czhech respublic.
Both model 700 and model 700M1 utilize same rotating bolt action system with 6 lugs on the rear of the bolt that locks into receiver. Both use same 10 rounds detachable box magazines, and both offered in 7.62mm NATO.
Main differences are (probably) in the stock design and the barrel: model 700 is offered with heavier stock with reduced trigger guard and fluted barrel, while model 700M1 is offered with thumbhole laminated wood stock and plain barrel. Both models have stocks with ajustable pull lenghts and cheeckpieces. Both used fully ajustable triggers (probably the same for both variants). Both have receivers drilled and taped to accept scope mounts.
Exact accuracy of these rifles is unknown, but i believe that those rifles will shot sub-1MOA groups with recommended ammunition (7.62mm NATO 168 grain (10.9 gramm) boattail match ammo, like US M118 ball sniper ammo)."
The M700 and M550 are two completely different actions. The difference between the M700 and the M550 is the design of the action since, as noted above, the M700 uses 6 lugs on the rear of the bolt and the M550 uses the more standard 2 lugs on the front of the bolt. This alone makes several other design difference but suffice it to say that they are not related by design features at all.
I will post again after talking to the engineer.
Best.
ADDED:
I used to shoot at the public range just outside of Antigo years ago. It was a nice place to stop on the way up to the Northland. We'd stop at Tigerton for lunch then go to Nueske's in Wittenberg to pick up some smoked meats before heading up to Antigo.
