Springfield 1903
I might have an opportunity to purchace one of these rifles from a co worker. He doesn't know how much he wants for it. What would be a fair price for the both of us. I don't want to rip him off, but I also don't want to pay a lot.I have seen other rifles in his collection and they are all in excellent shape, so I know that this one will also be in excellent shape. Thanks for your thoughts.

I HAVE A SPRINGFIELD 1903 #12375x ((\)) AND IT ALSO HAS RA A BOMB AND 2-43 CAN ANYONE TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT ?
What is the ((\)) after the serial number ?0 -
" I can get this rifle cheap enough is it possible to restore it."............yes, you can 'restore it' but...the trigger guard should be 'milled', the one on it is for a 03/a3. a new stock & hand guard will cost >$100. If you can get it for <$200 . 0 -
Not an 03 expert, but I believe the low serial number heat treat issue is with the Rock Island 03s only. Anyone else? 0 -
SA's with a SN < 800,000 are considered unsafe to shoot. There haven't been a lot of catastrophic failures, but there have been some. My face is too pretty to take a chance.
I fail to understand why you would knowingly go out & spend good money on a rifle that you know is too dangerous to shoot, & too mutilated to be considered "collectible". It's not like good 03's & 03A3's are scarce or expensive.

dont get a low ser # unless its a wall hanger - Why take a chance on a known and documented safety issue.[xx(]0 -
Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure if I'm as pretty as others on here but I'm sure a little shrapnel to the face won't help. I was just going to use it as a wall hanger, but from the sounds of it, it might not even be worth the trouble. Thanks again for the posts.
